This oat flour banana bread is deliciously gluten-free. It’s a healthy banana bread recipe the whole family will love. It has a totally adjustable level of sweetness for those who like a milder sweetness or a stronger dessert type of sweetness.

Banana Bread is simply a sweet bread that relies on overly ripe bananas for a good portion of its sweetness. It’s a delicious dessert, and some might even enjoy it for breakfast with coffee.

Banana Nut Bread

The walnuts in this walnut banana bread are completely optional but highly recommended. While the recipe calls for a mere half cup, you can certainly go heavier on the nuts by using a full cup.

Easy Banana Bread Recipe

One of banana bread’s best features is how simple and easy it is to make. Everything gets mixed together in one bowl (see recipe video below), and then transferred to a loaf pan for baking. It takes all of about ten minutes to make.

Healthy Banana Bread

What makes this banana bread healthy? While “healthy” may be a subjective term, you can certainly apply the term “healthier” to this recipe. It’s gluten-free, whole grain, low on added sugar, and is made with all whole-food ingredients.

Gluten-Free Banana Bread

So, technically speaking, oat flour is gluten-free. However, oats can be highly cross-contaminated with gluten due to processing practices with other grains. So if you need this to be gluten-free, be sure you use oat flour that is labeled as gluten-free, as well as any other ingredients you have any concerns about.

What You’ll Need To Make This Healthy Banana Bread Recipe

Baking powder – Make sure you have fresh baking powder. If it’s too old, your banana bread won’t rise properly and will end up a bit more dense.

Oat flour– If you need gluten-free, make sure it’s labeled as such. And if you usually grind your own oats into flour, make sure you grind them fine.

Salt – I used a pink Himalayan salt, but you can use whatever salt you have on hand as long as it’s not a coarse salt.

Walnuts – As I mentioned above, you can easily go a little heavier on the walnuts here. If you prefer that, use a full cup. But chop them first in order to measure properly.

Granular sweetener – I used Xylitol because that works best for my blood sugar. But feel free to use Sucanat, coconut sugar, or monk fruit. I do NOT recommend a liquid sweetener here. Stick to the granulated stuff.

Use the ½ cup for mild sweetness and ¾ cup for dessert-level sweetness.

Eggs – These are best used at room temperature.

Pure vanilla extract – I used a bourbon vanilla, but any real vanilla extract will do. Avoid vanilla flavoring or other imitation vanillas.

Bananas– You want these to be very ripe and have plenty of brown spots on them. Don’t use yellow bananas because the flavor won’t be there when the bread is done.

Coconut oil– No matter what type of coconut oil you use, you’ll want it in a liquid state. You can sub butter here in equal amounts, but you’ll want that melted, too.
