Hide ↑ Show ↓
Welcome to my FFXIV Thaumaturge Hunting Log Rank 2 Guide! It’s time to roam more of Thanalan as you grow in your ability to burn things with magicks! As usual, there’s a wide variety of enemies to tick off, along with different types of attacks from them too. So grab your brand or staff and let’s get casting.
What’s in the Log?
Here are all the targets as listed in your THM Log for Rank 2.
This guide will take them in the order of your log and I’ll help you focus on where you can clear the entries quickly. Here we go.

Bomb
Number Required: 3
These floating, explosive...things have some nasty AoEs up their non-existent sleeves. Either run away or interrupt them. You can find Bombs in Western Thanalan near the entrance to Copperbell Mines. That said, the MSQ eventually takes you to Copperbell Mines anyway, so you can just clear them out while you queue for the dungeon! Copper Coblyns also wander around here.

Bomb
Copper Coblyn
Number Required: 2
Coblyns are a bit freaky, if I'm honest - a giant jaw, with googly eyes and with a body of rocks - oh, and squid-like legs. They're made of different metals as you venture around Eorzea. Copper Coblyns can be found near Copperbell Mines, who would have thought?! Bombs are also floating around just waiting to explode all over you. Thoughtful. These things also eat rocks/minerals, so will occasionally drop ore as loot.

Cochineal Cactuar
Number Required: 3
A relative of the Cactuar is the Cochineal variety. Naturally I had to see what that word meant! Apparently. you can make a red dye from the Cochineal bugs that feed on Cacti. Well in the non-game world anyway. Thankfully you can use Red Pigment in FFXIV! Anyway, Cochineal Cactuar can be found South East of Black Brush Station. The marker on the following map matches the earlier screenshot. There, conveniently, are three Cactuar just waiting to have their bugs spilled all over. Enjoy that thought.

Quiveron Attendant
Number Required: 2
This is your first humanoid target for your Hunting Log. The Quiveron Attendant is an Archer-class Lalafell, found at the ingeniously-named Quiveron Manse in Central Thanalan. They're part of a gang causing trouble for the locals - and if memory serves me right, this is especially true for the Ala Mhigan refugees in the area. There's nothing quite like direct justice, so go kill a couple of them. Because nothing shows how much you value life than taking it, eh? I mean, erm, burn them down so the Light may burn brigher, or something? Sorry, I'm rubbish at sales pitches!

Antling Sentry
Number Required: 3
Once you've seen one Antling, you've seen 'em all. right? Well, kinda. This one's just like the Antling Soldier of the Gladiator Hunting Log 1 but... bigger. You can find an Antling Sentry - along with many more, North-West of Black Brush Station, on the way to the Cutter's Cry dungeon.

Giant Tortoise
Number Required: 2
Right, unlike most items on your Hunting Log so far, you won't find a nice neat pack of two or three of these in one place. The Giant Tortoise roams alone, or at least a comfortable distance from another. Usually. You can clear all three Giant Tortoises either in Central or Western Thanalan. In both cases, you need not stray far from Ul'dah. If you choose Central Thanalan, I found two near each other just around the walls of the city, hence writing "2" on a map dot.
The number required varies from job-to-job for this hunting log target.

Thickshell
Number Required: 3
I bet you can't guess how strong a shell this blue crab has, can you? Answer: not thick enough to stop you ticking Thickshell from your Gladiator Hunting Log! There are plenty of these on the map. Head West from Horizon, and before you hit the tunnel leading to Vesper bay, turn left/South West. This is in the direction of Crescent Cove. Just an FYI - if you're even vaguely on-level there are also the hyper-aggressive Arbor Buzzards flying around. So you may have to fend off a few of those while you collect your Thickshells. Nothing you can't handle though!

Toxic Toad
Number Required: 3
Around the Unholy Heir in the Clutch is the Toxic Toad. The thing to bear in mind if attacking the toads from outside of melée range is their use of Sticky Tongue, which pulls you in and interrupts any abilities being channelled or cast. When it does that, it automatically goes into an AoE around itself, so once it has pulled you, run away from it before resuming your attacks. You'll not want for targets around here either:

Tuco-Tuco
Number Required: 3
These little critters seem to be a cross between a giant mole and a porcupine. A molecupine? No, that's why I'm happy FFXIV have been inventive and called them Tuco-Tuco!You can find quite a few of these in the far West of Eastern Thanalan, just before you hit the exit that takes you to Central Thanalan.

Myotragus Nanny
Number Required: 3
Roaming East of Camp Drybone, the Myotragus Nanny is just a little shorter than the Myotragus Billy goats. Sometimes you'll see Nannies with Billies, and sometimes not. All you need to know is that both are in plentiful supply, so I've marked a few locations on the map. They respawn pretty quickly too, so even if another player is around, you should be able to clear the hunting log entry.

Blowfly Swarm
Number Required: 3
Yay for more bee-like flies or fly-like bees. Blowfly Swarms are delightfully dedicated to areas where dead things are. With the Church of Saint Adama Landama being inundated with more to bury than the grounds were originally created for, it's no wonder these pests are around. Show them a bit of your own "buzz" and tick this off your Hunting Log Rank 2 list. Oh, and do some good for the locals in the process.

When you're looking for a Rotting Corpse (or rotten corpse as I've seem some looking for them by this name), you're looking for the spear-wielding ones, rather than the Thaumaturge Rotting Nobles. Take out three of the correct ones then run, get the heck outta there!
Thankfully the Undead are a relatively minor part of FFXIV, all the same it's best not to look too closely at the artwork here.

Number Required: 3
When I was growing up "bogy" meant something completely different! Apparently in FFXIV, Bogies are akin to restless spirits. So, while you clear another Hunting Log entry, you're really just ushering them into the next life - killing them is doing them a favour! You'll find your Bloated Bogy in a tunnel full of the things between Vesper Bay and Cape Westwind in Western Thanalan.

TL;DR – Thaumaturge Hunting Log Rank 2, Burn Brightly!
Thaumaturges take “burning brightly” in the name of a “Warrior of Light” a tad too literally! But at least you can earn rewards and hopefully bring a little bit of a reprieve to the locals as you do your good deed of slaughtering. If you don’t want to read, just use the maps above and you’ll still clear it fine. I just like talking about FFXIV sometimes! Enjoy!
